Round 2 RECAP - Special Stage Route 5

SSE NISMO's Frederick Byloos has paced Qualifying Session 1, with the Belgian driver pacing the first qualifying session with a 1:20.099 being set in the first qualifying session.

Frederick Byloos had paced the first qualifying session, reeling off a rapid 1:20.099 early in the session to gain the provisional pole, ahead of qualifying session 2.

Second place went to the #91 Speed Demon Motorsports SRT Viper GTS-M of Trevor Holden. Surprisingly, he was over 7-tenths slower with a 1:20.817, however it was still enough to claim second provisionally.

Third place went to the now single PRT Competition entry of Alexander Heinen, where he reeled off a 1:21.679 in the #63 Chevrolet Corvette C7.M. Fourth place

was the #93 Viper of Christopher Jordan with a 1:22.241, and completing the Top 5 was Pedro Harsk in the #2 Ford GT with a 1:23.143.

Mich Bearpark has set the overall pole for main race at Special Stage

Route 5, with the British driver nailing down a 1:20.073 halfway through

the session.

This deducts Frederick Byloos, having paced Qualifying Session 1, to

second place with a 1:20.099 being set late in session 1.

Third place on the grid is now the #91 Speed Demon Motorsports SRT

Viper GTS-M of Trevor Holden. Although his qualifying run wasn't up to

snuff with a 1:20.817, his pace could be a prime concern for the

dominant-Nissans.

Starting alongside Trevor in fourth is the now single PRT Competition

entry of Alexander Heinen, where he reeled off a 1:21.679 in the

#63 Chevrolet Corvette C7.M in the first qualifying session. Completing the Top 5 was the first of three Anubis Racing entries. With driver and team owner Moe Rafaat reeled off a 1.22.237 in the second qualifying session in the team's privateer #88 Corvette C6.M

Mich Bearpark lead SSE NISMO to a 1-2 finish in the GGTC event at Special Stage Route 5, ahead of teammate Frederick Byloos in 2nd.

Mich Bearpark and Frederick Byloos have taken their momentum in qualifying to top podium honors at Special Stage Route 5, with the team scoring a 1-2 in the #1, and #11 Nissans respectively.

Mich Bearpark finished ahead of his teammate by 8 seconds in his #1 Nissan GT-R. With a final push, to the finish, and scoring the only 1:19 of the race, it all the results Mich was looking for after an engine failure at Bathurst.

"It was incredible, I was more than pleased with Fred's performance in qualifying - in fact, I was worried he was going to beat me to the pole. During the race, me and Fred stuck together and we arranged our strategy which fortunately worked out for me, but unfortunately he lost time (which he managed to get back due to a late race FCY)," said Mich, "from the restart, I just got my head down and started running fast laps. With a couple of laps to go with Fred behind me and had a good gap to Trevor, I was confident that we were going to finish 1-2."

"We started our season late due to bad luck at Bathurst, but we're back with a bang and hopefully many more 1-2's to come!"

Frederick Byloos was able to make this 1-2 a success, with the Belgian driver finishing ahead of the next car by 3 seconds in his #11 Nissan GT-R.

"I'm happy as a team that we got another 1-2 finish, which is always a good thing, said Frederick, "Qualifying was also close between us, so I was hoping to have a good battle with him [Mich]. After the FCY, we we were close but I almost lost it which costed me the gap between me and him [Mich]. I did hope that I would get my first win on here, but it was Mikey who was before me and won.., so I was happy, but I was also not happy at the same time. I was happy for him because he is and will always be the better driver."

Completing the podium was the hard-charging #91 Speed Demon Motorsports SRT Viper of Trevor Holden, who too was in a hard charge to the finish, after picking up a fastest lap of 1:20.101, it wasn't enough to even give the SSE Nissans a challenge after the restart.

"I'll admit these guys are fast. Certainly I can give them a challenge and have good pace, but consistency under pressure is where I think the issue is," said Trevor, "There are plenty of races to go until the Endurance Cup round at Suzuka, so we just have to fill in the cracks before-hand."

4th place was the #92 SRT Viper of Richie Massie, after charging up from the back of the grid to finish on a strong note behind his teammate. Completing the Top 5 was the now-lone PRT Competition Chevrolet Corvette of Alexander Heinen.

It's worth noting that only 6 cars finished on the lead lap, with Pedro Harsk in the #2 Ford GT finishing a near 50 seconds further back.

One FCY came out for roughly about 5 minutes.

The FCY was due to a heavy impact right after the hairpin. Firstly, Richie Massie, driver of one of the SDM Vipers has hit the high-banked curb of this exact turn, spun. Due to being unsighted, CJ Holden collected the Viper.
The Viper returned to the right direction, ghosting. After leaving the ghost-mode, Trevor Holden in the other Viper hit his teammate., which lead into a spin of Massie's car.
Massie then reversed and collected PRT Competition Driver Alexander Heinen.

Round 3 of GGTC will be at Fuji Speedway at Japan next weekend.
