Speed Demon Motorsports reveals 2017 car and team composition

Speed Demon Motorsports announces

Three Car Full-Season Effort with three

Dodge Viper SRT GTS-M's

Speed Demon Motorsports will field three

Viper GTS-M's in the 2017 Season of the

Global GT Championship. SRT has revealed

that the new Viper, which will still retain the

massive 8.4-Liter V10 engine, however, will

feature new and lightweight parts to the

car.

"It's just unbelievable to be a part of an

amazing project," said team owner and

driver Trevor Holden, "These guys really do a hell of a job with these cars, the Viper is really a name to be reckoned with in any series, and a championship as tight as the GGTC, its amazing what these guys at SRT are capable of."

The previous RE-MG wheels supplied by BBS were updated to a lighter metal composite, which will cut costs on manufacturing, and which will be lighter. The car has also been equipped with Brembo race-spec brakes, the same brakes used on the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, this helps in making braking points on the car more diverse and will suit the car on various tracks.

The car has also seen GRO-homologated bodywork updated to carbon fiber specifications, both the front, side, and rear bodywork have been updated. Another key area that has been updated is the rear spoiler. While the SRT-designed spoiler might look the same, it has been heavily revised with lighter metal-alloy connectors, with the main wing updated with carbon fiber, to compromise on weight from the rear without compromising on downforce.

The biggest improvement of all is the carbon fiber monocoque, the same one used in the Viper GT3-R chassis.

"We entirely proud of this car. The 2016 chassis's served us well, and it gave us a season of what SRT delivered, and we took that info and took what we learn into this new chassis. The 2017 car is definitely an amazing project, with at least 60-70% of the car updated."

"With the 2017 season just right around the corner, we're entering this season with quite a good sense of what to expect. The Viper will definitely be a name to be reckoned with, and we can't wait to be

winning more championships along the way!"

The Global Racing Organisation caught up with SDM team-owner and driver Trevor Holden to discuss SRT's and Speed Demon Motorsport's success to be able to take the manufacturers championship away from Aston Martin.

-GRO: "How much does it mean for Speed Demon Motorsports to be able to claim a GGTC title on their first season of major competition?"

-Trevor Holden: "It's hard to believe what we've put together really. To be a rookie into the series, not knowing what to expect, and after 22 rounds of hard fighting and

immense tough competition, it's unbelievable to walk out of the 2016 season champion. To also be the leading driver in SRT's involvement in the series goes a long way with SDM's partnership with such a great manufacturer."

-GRO: "Had you expected to be able to go

from one car at the beginning of the season

to finish with three cars on your team?"

-Trevor Holden: "I honestly had no idea that

the expansion was this impressive, even

though we only picked up a few wins this

season. I had really hoped to carry two

Vipers by the end of the season, but to

have three Vipers with competitive drivers,

it's really just a dream come true to me."

-GRO: "Do you feel a lot more competitive

in the series now that you have more

drivers on your team?"

-Trevor Holden: "Absolutely, we've recently

acquired a fourth driver who will be

involved in the series, but for another

team. The SDM team has expanded so much this year, its blows my mind really.

I also really have to give credit to Richie, Chris, and recently, Damon for making this team as competitive as it can be, I also have to give credit to the SDM guys for earning a championship that will be remembered on our shelves forever."

-GRO: "What is the future for the team as Speed Demon Motorsports prepares for next season of the Global GT Championship?"

-Trevor Holden: "We're definitely looking into our next season with extended and even further factory backing from SRT. They do a hell of a job to keep our cars running and making sure the name of the Viper is still racing for the championships. We'll be retaining our drivers, with a slight change up of who will be where in which cars. But nonetheless, expect all three Viper's on the field with factory-backing all season long."

-GRO: "Any last thoughts before we close out the interview?"

-Trevor Holden: "All I can really say is, the Global GT Championship isn't your average everyday championship. It's more GT touring car based, but it has a LOT to offer. The racing might be tough, but you learn these mistakes, and that's what I had to learn from in order to win the 2016 Manufacturers title. For 2017, we will be more ready than ever, and we can't certainly wait to win more races and claim more titles!"
